Over the last few years, Peely, a disturbing anthropomorphized banana, has become Fortnite’s de facto mascot. We here at Kotaku don’t like that. This creepy bastard keeps coming back, even after death. So we are all happy to learn that Fortnite has finally skinned and flayed Peely. The bastard deserved it.
Since 2019, we’ve made our thoughts about Peely very clear. Here are former Kotaku editor Riley MacLeod’s thoughts on Peely back when the character made its debut:
Fortnite is known for some wild skins, but this is beyond the pale. Look at Peely’s oddly muscular arms and legs. Sure, it’s running and jumping and doing other athletic Fortnite stuff, but I don’t need a food I hate to be this buff.
Peely was supposed to be dead, but he keeps coming back in more disturbing and horrific ways, like that recent Lego set of him that partially removed his flesh. Thankfully, horror icon Leatherface has come to the rescue and apparently skinned ol’ Peely, turning him into some appropriately unsettling cosmetic items.
As part of the ongoing Halloween event in Fortnite, Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been added to the game. You can’t buy the grotesque murderer just yet, but that hasn’t stopped dataminers from digging in and pulling out an early look at the character and his cosmetics. And this is where we find two different flayed versions of Peely.
One has Peely’s face stretched across a wooden frame which players can wear as a creepy backpack. The other item is a weapon skin that shows more of Peely’s banana-y skin peeled off and pinned to some wood. Both seem like horrible fates for anyone, but in this case, I’m not too upset. Peely, a nightmare we are cursed to endure, deserves all of this and more. Go to hell Peely, it’s where you came from in the first place.
