The Smithscript Axe is an Axe weapon that can only be found in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. While it seems like a pretty standard weapon at first glance, it sets itself apart from other axes with its ability to be thrown via a heavy attack. This makes it a killer choice for anyone looking to add a bit of range to their otherwise melee loadout.
Here’s what you need to know about the Smithscript Axe and where to find it.
Smithscript Axe stats and features
The Smithscript Axe has a weight of 5.0 and requires the following stats to wield:
- STR – 13
- DEX – 10
- INT – 11
- FAI – 11
The weapon comes equipped with Ash of War: Wild Strikes. This Ash of War causes you to swing the axe wildly in front of you for as long as you hold down the button (until you run out of FP, of course). If you want to just go all out on an enemy, and feel confident enough that you can poise through any attacks they may throw at you in the meantime, this is the way to do it.
The Smithscript Axe can be upgraded to +25 with standard Smithing Stones.
Smithscript Axe item description
The Smithscript Axe’s item description reads:
“Axe engraved with a smithscript. A throwing weapon created through the smithing arts. Execute a strong attack or jumping strong attack to throw the axe.”
Where to find the Smithscript Axe
You can find the Smithscript Axe in Taylew’s Ruined Forge, a dungeon reached by going just north of the Ancient Ruins Base Site of Grace in Scadu Altus.
Once inside Taylew’s Ruined Forge, walk down some stairs and then take a nearby ladder down to the next level. Ahead, jump over the gap, then take a look to your left to see a stone golem you’ll need to defeat. These guys take a lot of damage (and dish out a lot in return), so take it slow and aim for the red crystal on its back for extra damage.
When the stone golem falls, you’ll see an item you can loot in this same area, which will grant you the Smithscript Axe. While you’re here, make sure you continue through the rest of the dungeon for the Smithscript Greathammer, Smithscript Shield, and more.
